Obsidian Spotlight: Jacob Lewis

Jacob is from Mansfield Ohio but recently moved to Columbus Ohio. He got into IT originally by speaking with an AirForce recruiter who saw that he was interested in IT/Cyber Security, which led to spending 6 years with the AirForce. This started him on the path of Cyber Security and has become one of his main interests ever since.

1. What is your role at Obsidian? How long have you been here?

My role at Obsidian is a Senior Threat Hunter working alongside the Department Of Homeland Security. I’ve been working with Obsidian since August 2022

2. What has been one of your proudest moments while working with Obsidian?

One of my proudest moments while working with Obsidian, was one of the first initial discussions with my director Doug, I was explaining a few of the ideas I had for the team and how I thought they would benefit us. The next week I was put in contact with others to further explain my ideas and was given what felt like unlimited support to help bring these ideas to fruition.

That direct support enabled me to develop and implement new processes within my team which improved our operating procedures immensely. I was extremely proud of seeing the impact and positive changes of these new procedures, along with the immediate support from leadership whenever needed.

3. Who inspires you?

My late father, Joe Lewis, has been the main inspiration and driving force behind most of my entire career and life. He often would tell me whenever I asked for advice “do you want me to tell you what you want to hear, or what you need to hear”. The honesty and core values that he instilled in me growing up, are one of the main things I attribute my entire success to.

4. What is the last book you read? Would you recommend it?

The last book I read was from my father's library, and it was Conan The Barbarian. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy novels.

5. What is your favorite way to spend the weekend?

My favorite way to spend the weekend is decompressing and either enjoying a new book or spending time outdoors with my friends and family.
